On 17th June, Liverpool schools celebrated their first “Maths Party Day”. At Childwall Abbey School, all our Key Stage 2 and 3 classes took part in a competition to see how many times they used their Numeracy skills in lessons other than Maths. We were delighted to find that numeracy is part of everything we do and all our classes from Year 6 to Year 9 achieved C.A.S. Gold Numeracy Awards in a variety of subjects including Science, English, Computing and Spectrum time. Lucky winners received special mentions in Praise assembly and tasty treats to enjoy at break time.
As part of our contribution to the success of the day across the city, a group of our children volunteered to pack and deliver Maths Party Bags to younger pupils at other special schools. Mr Watkins, Mrs Deegan and Mrs Petches-Kelly co-ordinated preparations in school (no easy task when putting pens, pencils, rulers, rubbers etc into 500 bags!). Mrs Cusack and Mr Maloney took a group of pupils to deliver the bags to Millstead, Princes, Hope, Bank View and Abbots Lea Schools.
Everyone made us welcome and it was a lovely opportunity for sharing. We are looking forward to next year’s Party Day already.
